The 32 Marathon Challenge

From 2nd July to 2nd August 2010 Gerry Duffy and Ken Whitelaw completed a full marathon of 26.2 miles every single day. During the 32 days they ran a marathon in every county in Ireland. Along the way over 1,100 runners joined them for a half or a full marathon and over €500,000 was raised for Irish Autism Action and The Irish Cancer Society.

Check out the video of the event on this website.

Challenge 2011 ... A DECA Ironman!

10 IRONMAN distance triathlons in 10 DAYS;

24 miles of SWIMMING , 1120 miles of CYCLING , 262 miles of RUNNING

This is a huge step up from the 32 MARATHON CHALLENGE.

The event starts at 06:00am each morning and carries on for 10 DAYS! Every day has a cut off of 22 hours for that days distance. If you are over, then you are disqualified. If you finish at 01:00 am you have only a few hours to eat and sleep and then start another day.

I first heard about this event 2 years ago. When I found it on the internet, I actually thought the distances were a misprint.

Now I am registered and have just 4 months to go to the start date on June 3rd. Ken is not joining me in this year's challenge as 2011 has plenty of other things to keep him busy. He has promised to return again in the future.

I will post a weekly blog on www.32marathons.com . In this I will share my training as well as personal life experiences as I prepare for this most incredible of physical challenges.

It promises to be interesting to say the least.
