Marathon 4 - Carlow

A really lovely route along the River Barrow. It started in St. Andrew's GAA Club, went to Loughlinbridge and back. The surface was lovely and grassy so it was good, soft conditions underfoot which was just what the legs needed and no cars or traffic. It was the fourth really warm day with figures in the 20's so plenty of liquid was needed. I have to say a big thanks at this stage to Ken Hickey who organised everything. There was a good crowd of local runners with us and we were able to have a good chat with some of them. The support we got was fantastic and it really got us through the hard parts. There was a dozen or so runners who joined us for the final stage in Bagenalstown, this was really appreciated as they're the hardest few steps. David Devine also needs a mention completing his very first marathon which was a great achievement.

Again the Irish Society of Chartered Physio's gave us really good support and we really believe we wouldn't feel as good as we do if it wasn't for them. When all this was done and we were just going to leave we were called up and presented with a lovely piece of crystal from the Commissioner of Bagenalstown. That was a great surprise and a very thoughtful gesture. A great day all round.

So into the cars and off to Wexford for a well deserved feed and sleep.... Slán.
